Don't know for other countries but most people in Serbia have handguns. I personally (my father actually) have Magnum 357 and Glock 45, these can defend person very well. There are also people with Scorpions buy they are criminals usually.
Handguns are OK for average people, imo.

Yea Serbia has a much deeper gun culture, the Balkans in General have a lot of guns floating around not sure how many are legal . I would totally buy a CZ Skorpion. One of my favorite firearms.

You can actually own semi-autos (hunting variants mostly) and handguns, although it's more complicated to get the paperwork compared to regular bolt action rifles and single/double barreled shotguns. But I can't speak for all places ofc.

Because I am a citizen of the Republic charged with its defense from all foreign and domestic enemies and to ensure that tyranny never takes root and if so it never prevails. I as an able bodied male am the militia and it's my duty to have equal or better technology then those that would seek to conquer me or my nation.

This 5,5% is very high for Hungary, if you are a simple people it's impossible to get weapons. It's allowed only for hunters, businessman etc.

Meanwhile I am surprised it is this low for Poland. We are in the penultimate place according to this map, only Romania below.
