The current members of the organization are Egypt, Greece, Cyprus, Italy, Israel, Jordan, the Palestinian Authority.
Upgrading this Forum to an organization comes amid tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean over Ankara's provocative stance.
Seven energy ministers, including Egypt, signed the new Mediterranean Gas Charter (EMGF) on Tuesday, setting up a vital platform for countries whose relationship is changing dramatically.
According to a joint statement, the Egyptian Ministry of Oil hosted today, Tuesday, the signing ceremony of the map of the Middle East energy organization, which will be based in Cairo through a teleconference with the participation of the seven ministers.
The members are Cyprus, Egypt, Greece, Israel, Italy, Jordan, while France is expected to join.
The association was established in January 2019 to "create a regional gas market, optimize resource development, reduce infrastructure costs, offer competitive prices and improve trade links, while ensuring the security of these movements." ».
The agency sets out "a common vision for a systematic dialogue on gas policies" to maximize the profits of the countries in the region. "It fully respects the rights of its members under international law and supports efforts to invest their reserves through effective cooperation, " the statement said.
In a separate statement, Egyptian Oil Minister Tarek El-Molla said the transformation of the forum into an international organization in the region would give impetus to the creation of a body aimed at boosting co-operation and dialogue on gas.
He reaffirmed the importance of the role of the member states in finalizing the map in a record time of only 20 months and in setting up the institutions despite the unstable global conditions.
"The signing of the map takes place amid tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean region regarding the Turkish stance against Greece and Cyprus, two close allies of Egypt.
"The conflict escalated even more after the signing of the agreement between Egypt and Greece on the demarcation of their maritime borders in August to create an exclusive economic zone between the two countries, provoking an angry reaction from Turkey," writes a major Egyptian newspaper.
The entry of France and the upgrade of the Forum into an organization radically changes the game in the Eastern Mediterranean as the course of the moves "shows" defensive cooperation to preserve these deposits and channel them to the market.
The whole plan is also supported by the World Bank, which gives another entity to the plans of the countries in the region.
We point out that international organizations are transnational bodies, ie they consist of Member States that have common goals and permanent cooperation in political, economic, social, defense, humanitarian, educational and security matters.
