If you ask me, Macedonia should not join the EU, it should join Mini-Schengen, as well as other Balkan countries. We need to make our own economic alliance, to work for us, not for others.

People here are obsessed in trying to cancel modern ethnic nations based on their own national considerations, however what everybody forgets is how long was almost all of the Balkans under Ottoman occupation, and for hundreds of years on end in the Balkans there barely were any ethnic national identities, but religion was the sole identifier for people: you were either an Orthodox, Catholic or Muslim. What a Bulgarian, Serbian, Bosniak, Macedonian, etc. is, are very modern, 19th-20th century concepts, since they were all speaking loosely related South Slavic dialects. That's why a Northern Macedonian ethnicity as legitimate as any other, because it was the choice of these people to be who they want to be, and this will stay this way: neither Serbian or Bulgarian. Wouldn't it be much better to focus on integrating into the EU family of nations and leave all this petty infighting behind?

Romanian, Bulgarian, Serbian etc ethnicities were formed 1000 years ago, not 100 years ago. That's quite some difference.

All modern nations are formed at about 100 years ago. Before that they were multinational imperial states led by a king who may not have been related to the mixture of ethnicity he ruled.

Most nations are still multiethnic today.

I was clearly talking about ethnicities not nations, and so was Dunai (although he sneakingly tried to muddle the waters by calling them "ethnic national identities"). The ethnicities I mentioned earlier did exist 1000 years ago.

Exactly, there are enough sources from thousands of years ago to prove that those ethnicities did exist. However with Macs you could back 70 years at most that’s why the Macs try to impose on other well established ethnicities that they were mixed, undecided, more religious than ethnic bulshit, so that they justify the sources who describe them ethnically as Bulgarians till 70 years ago.
