Everyone knew Macedonia as Greece including the Ottomans.
It was Bulgaria who started to cultivate this new ethnicity because they couldn’t get a piece of Macedonia otherwise. Tito found this very convenient later.
They thought if they could gather the different ethnic groups under one new regional designation it would be easier for Bulgaria to annex Macedonia to Bulgaria. After all Bulgaria too has a Macedonian province.
Now how is it the names Macedonians/Macedonia don't appear even a single one time in any of those 500 folksongs of your country collected and published by the Miladinov brothers in 1861?
When Macedonia was liberated from the Turks it has always been called Macedoniia by the Greeks. It was called the "General Dictatorship of Macedonia" and then Macedonia from the Start. where as the part of
Western Bulgaria annexed by Serbia was always called Southern Serbia never Macedonia.
