For people in their 70's, the risks to develop a severe illness are 16,6%. Thus, the odds that Donald Trump made it out alive were pretty high, it's no big achievement. (Let alone the fact that he received special treatment from the best medical team).
With that being said, 16,6% is still high enough to take the risk of infection seriously.

And they don't need nanny state to help them nor does nanny state need to destroy economies to help them. These are people who have been through enough tough times and have determination and self-preservation bred into them. Instead, we are teaching the youth of today reliance upon others to survive. Maybe it is different in Western Europe. It seems that is the case from an outsiders perspective.

In Europe, we may have a utilitarian approach, which strives to achieve "the greatest good for the greatest number", as theorized by English philosopher Jeremy Bentham, "while creating the least amount of harm or preventing the greatest amount of suffering".
But as westerners, we are also tied to our individual freedom, which is hard to conciliate with common good.
Look at East Asians. So far, they have managed to contain the Covid successfully, thanks to their self-discipline, their innate sense of community, their respect for their elderly.
They might emerge even stronger from this crisis. We should all consider them a role model.

Europe seems very oriental from this view
And East Asians, nah. They are mostly not democratic and used to being under control of "insert gentleman's name here". For us, any East/South-east Asian rise is good for business, and we are open for business. WTF are your people doing

Life is easy on your remote islands, sheltered like in a cozy hobbit hole, far away from the hustle-and-bustle of the northern hemisphere. It makes you lose touch with reality
I don't care about people who claim that this virus is not more lethal than a normal flu. It's a fallacy, this virus is extremely infectious, has a high incidence rate. And there is still so much we ignore about its possible mutations. The number of confirmed cases increases every day, and in two weeks, the emergency units in our hospitals will be overwhelmed again.
You should have witnessed the situation in Europe in April, when we were locked down at home. Hospitals had to call back retired doctors and medicine students for help. Ambulance sirens were rythming our everyday life.
If you care about the caregivers, the medical staff, if you want to make their life easier, if you want your parents to live longer, then you wear a fucking mask. Social darwinism and the "business first" argument you promote have no weight here.
