The person who celebrates or whose ancestors celebrated Slava, is of Serbian origin.

The common social structure of the time was the zadruga, a large, extended, communal family that lived under one roof. Unlike the Greeks of today, they followed the old Julian Calendar, and their most important holiday was their slava, celebrated on their family's saint's day [13]. From old traveler's descriptions, we can imagine what those celebrations might have been like. For example, this "Turkish Slavonian" festival at a monastery in August, 1844 [14]:

A green glade that ran up to the foot of the hill was covered with the preparations for the approaching festivities. Wood was splitting, fires lighting, fifty or sixty sheep were spitted, pyramids of bread... In the evening we went out, and the countless fires, lighting up the lofty oaks, had a most pleasing effect. The sheep were by this time cut up and lying in fragments, around which the supper parties were seated cross-legged. Other peasants danced slowly, in a circle, to the drone of the somniferous Servian bagpipe.

Here is map of Slava tradition.
For part of Aegean Macedonia and SE Vardar Macedonia is written that due to action of Bulgarian Exarchate and Greek Phanariots in 19th and early 20th century Slava is partially suppressed and replaced with Name day.

Seems accurate. It covers Kostursko, Lerinsko and Vodensko in Egejska, which makes sense. I just would have thought people in south west Bulgaria (Pirinsko) would have celebrated Slava at some stage.

For western part of Bulgaria marked on the map is written - Slava custom was almost completely suppressed until the WW1 in western Bulgaria. The replacement was until then unknown Name day. Slava was preserved until recently in villages around Vidin.

You can thank the Macedonian Orthodox Church for keeping the tradition alive, even in the Macedonian diaspora
