    Default Islam and Croats

Croats like to call themselves Antemurale Christianitatis, but in fact they are Islamophilic society.

Islamophilia dates from Ante Starčević, father of Croatian nationalism. He considered Bosnian Muslims as purest part of Croatian nation.

When Croats finaly got their independent state - Hitler gave it to them in 1941, they build big mosque in centre of Zagreb.

After ww2, during Tito rule, this mosque was museum, and minarets are removed.

When Croats got their independence again in 1991. building new big modern mosques all across Croatia started.

This is map with new and planned mosques:

Today, one of the most favorite Croatian far right politician is Zlatko Hasanbegović, Muslim by religion.

Actually, most of Croatia was under Ottoman rule for at least 150 years.

Compared to the Ottoman spawns such as Albanians and Bosnians it is not very much

Lika and Slavonia had a lot of Muslims during the Ottoman rule. In late 17th century when Austrians took Lika and Slavonia from Ottomans Muslims mostly moved to the Bosnia. In Lika some Muslims (mostly around Gospić) converted on Catholicism, priest Marko Mesić baptized them. Around Gospić are common Muslim-sounding surnames among present day Croatians.

If this thread doesn't have 20+ pages by the end of the week then I will be disappointed.

Some Croats and Serbs have surnames like Bošnjak, Turkovic and more. This can mean they have Muslim ancestor. I just wanted to say. Because I met some people with these surnames.
