This San Francisco accent is dead for all intents and purposes. I have minor elements of this in my speech which some mistake for "east coast".

Is 'Valley Girl' an organic accent anyway? I thought it was just an affectation many American women adopted beginning in the 70s/80s.

I think it was organic to the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles starting in the 70s but was an affectation everywhere else in America because it was thought to be cool at the time. I have no idea on how/why it originally emerged in SFV. I'd be curious to know if it resembles any UK accents.

I don't think so. Many vacuous Australian women have a similar affectation though, with a lot of uptalking. Usually since Millennials/late Gen X and the 90s/2000s.

It's basically the airhead, mall chick accent of the west coast, originally SFV, that has been fading since the the 90s.

The broad Aussie accent will continue to decline but won't die.
