Australia was the most sparsely populated continent, it had only around 300,000 Aborigines living there (IIRC).

i think it would depend on how valueable these colonies would be for them? They could end up like the Philippines or maybe like the modern Andean countries or inbetween, with mostly indigenous/aboriginal by genetics, with a smaller white or mostly white mixed elite and probably still the indigenous languages being intact, but with spanish being an important lingua franca, seeing that aboriginal australia had a huge number of languages, i doubt there was any sort of culture or language that could have been described as dominant among them, so a common lingua franca would be useful to communicate with all these people. I think the spanish would have little use for new zealand though.

would turn into big Mexico, with everything that follows from this - an average IQ of about 80, mainly agriculture, drug cartel wars, military coups, stupid TV series and so on... but a lot of holidays and colorful parades, and no smoking ban...

In your opinion, if Russians had colonized Australia, would they have eliminated the natives, set them aside on reservations, or mixed with them and added more different ethnicities to that mix?
