Urban Germans in cities were usually not Swabians and they often assimilated into host society.
Danube Swabians originated from Bavaria, Baden-Würtemberg, Saarland, Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse and Alsace. From these regions were coming colonists to the Bačka, Slavonija, Syrmia, Banat and Hungary in 18th century.
From Austria were only individuals in these regions, like for example paternal ancestors of Đorđe Vajfert who came to Pančevo from Austria https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Đorđe_Vajfert

Kočevje Germans are not Danube Swabians, they are descendants of settlers from Austria in 14th century https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ko%C4%...f_Ko%C4%8Devje

Germans were not homogenous long before WW2.

Compare Modern Bavarians with Migration Period Bavarians.

The latter group was like Modern Schleswig, not like Modern Bavaria.

And ancestors of East Germans started mixing with Slavs ca. year 1150-1200 AD along the Elbe River. Nothing to do with WW2. I'm just laughing at people who want to prove that how East Germans plot has nothing to do with their recent (relatively recent - from the last 800 years or so) admixture.

Compare VK211 and VK212 - both from a place near the Oder River. None was like East German. But if you mix them you get East Germans.

lol, i remember being in an arab run class in my hippie-dippie program in university, the main focus was on migration/"injustice" etc in the world. we were discussing western sahara/palestine/yemen etc throughout the year. i realized "hey, germans east of the FDR were expelled and ethnically cleansed, that is relevant to me and an interesting, underresearched topic"

lol, super nervous/lukewarm response on topic announcement, weird lack of comments and "go away - middling score". i realize now that this topic was verboten, yet they couldnt come up with an exact reason to fully shut me down at that time. if only i'd written about some poor brown people being ethnically cleansed.
