Probably a good bit most Greeks I have known have islander ancestry, but that is diaspora Greeks.

By residence 15-20%. By ancestry (partially or fully) 40-50%, or even higher if we count Greeks of Cyprus. My impression is that today more people with ancestry from the islands live in the mainland (especially Athens) than in the Greek islands themselves

At the same time most of islanders have some mainland ancestry (meaning a recent one, otherwise all of the islands were colonized by mainlanders during the antiquity)

The approx. population of Greece’s islands would indicate that roughly around 10-15% of Greeks are islanders. But this does not include the population of Greeks with islander ancestry who are scattered throughout the mainland, especially in large cities like Athens. If we take the total into consideration, I would assume that 30-40% of Greeks are islanders. But I am not aware of any statistic so who really knows for sure.

All Greeks has a form of Greek islander in different variations.

People are more mixed than not in 2020, especially in the urban centers, for your categorizations to make sense in the rigid manner you are using them.

I think the question is asking about Greeks who can directly trace their ancestry from the islands within the past few generations at least.

    1. Not really other than traditional outfits/folklore and music in festivals, etc. Extremely few local (Greek) dialects escaped the canonization of the 1950s-onwards.

    2. Islanders are usually wealthier (at least from the medium-big ones).

    3. South > North, in wealth and cosmopolitanism.

Yes, south Greeks, or island Greeks are cosmopolitans without any tradition or lifestyle.
    Island Greeks are mainly globo-homos

The Talmud tells us that the only language the Torah could be translated into elegantly is Greek.
