Balkan Turk GEDmatch Results, Dodecad K12b Averages

Balkan Turks are originally from the Konya-Karaman area, where Karamanids ruled before being subjugated by the Ottomans and banished to Balkan territories. Karamanids were Khazar Turks so they probably had strong Turanid or Mongoloid component.

Atatürk, who is probably a descendant of Karamanids himself, took the revenge of Karamanids by putting an end to the Ottomans and sending the family into exile, the same way what was done do Karamanids.

My history is better than anthropology, so, just wanted to give a historical perspective in this context.

The founder ones were probably of Kayi and Karesi(A worthy note here is there might be migration from other Western Beyliks as well, like Aydin, Menteşe, and Saruhan together with Karesi and Kayi) origin. But indeed, we see conclusions of claimed Karamanid migrations towards end of the 15th century. Population who are registered to those Yoruk associations was almost doubling. Also, although it is not mentioned in Turkish history, I give a chance to Candaroglu migration to the Balkans together with Karamanids.

After all, when these associations are collapsed in the 17th century, Celali Rebellions took place. Migration and exiles after the rebellions doubled the Turkish population in the Balkans, again. There is no detailed historical record on it and we don't know the origin of the new comers.

Towards the 19th century irregular migrations from Anatolia, Iran, Syria, and Iraq happened. All were Turkic speakers and former subjects of the Ottomans. (like Iranian Turks, Syrian Turkmens)

At the same time, from the 1840s to the 1930s, great Tatar migration took place and some are already absorbed among Turks while some still identify as Tatar.

Plus to what had been stated until now, there is also a chance of pre-Ottoman(Seljuks and before) Turkic migrations to the Balkans.

Karamanids are just one of the origins, but it is a popular myth in Turkey to talk as if all of the Balkan Turks were of Karamanid origin.
