    Default Was Hitler a Christian?

I discuss that now on another forum. Some opened a thread where they claimed Hitler was not a Christian. But he might have been. That doesnt mean he was a "good Christian" or inspired by the Holy Spirit what he did or that everything he did was the will of the Lord, not his own though. A Christian can do unholy things, and unchristian things. Hitler spoke often about provedence and he believed in God, he was a Catholic. That doesnt mean he was not evil though or a good Christian. I dont know all the terminology of every christian sect, the protestants believe if you are christian you cant do any wrong? I dont think catholics believe that, thats why you need faith and good deeds in catholicism to be saved, or that one compliments the other, and that you need not only once accept Jesus and be saved, but that is a continuous process, and going to Church, receiving Communion, repentance and doing good deeds. That is what I think too. Also to be honest, Im not sure if Hitler was really that devil of a man, maybe he was less evil then what we think. I really dont know it.

    Debatable topic.
In the beginning of his political career he was strongly pro-Christian, later he changed his views towards Chistianity. Some of his colleagues from the beginning of his political career claimed that he was always hardcore Atheist and that he was declaring himself as Christian only because at that time being Atheist was still inappropriciate, especially for country leader. Some historians even describe him as "anti-Christian". One thing is sure, Nazis involved strong occult and pagan elements in their celebrations.

Hard to say since he made so many contradictory statements about religion. Publicly he presented himself as one though.

More like occultist type of thing probably since He was a mad, unstable man with mental illness so he was much more into that meme things. He was more pro-islam than pro-christian, i can tell you that. He admired Islam's warrior like nature.

According to Minister of Armaments and War Production Albert Speer, Hitler wished that the Caliphate had won the Battle of Tours against the Franks in 732: "The Mohammedan religion would have been much more compatible to us than Christianity. Why did it have to be Christianity with its meekness and flabbiness?"
"Had Charles Martel not been victorious at Poitiers — already, you see, the world had fallen into the hands of the Jews, so gutless a thing was Christianity ! — then we should in all probability have been converted to Mohammedanism, that cult which glorifies heroism and which opens the seventh Heaven to the bold warrior alone. Then the Germanic races would have conquered the world. Christianity alone prevented them from doing so."

Atheist with Catholic background. He didn't seem to care or take occult things seriously though unlike some other nazis.
From what I understand, Hitler mocked occult pagans and considered them idiots. He did believe in some kind of providence though, I think (common for madmen with messianic complex - e.g providence saving him form asssianations)

Enemy of the Church in any case, just didn't do it completely openly because at that time most Germans were Christian. Nazis planned to kidnap pacifist Pope from Vatican also.

Nazi persecution of the Catholic Church in Germany

The Roman Catholic Church suffered persecution in Nazi Germany. The Nazis claimed jurisdiction over all collective and social activity and the party leadership hoped to dechristianize Germany in the long term. Clergy were watched closely, and frequently denounced, arrested and sent to Nazi concentration camps. Welfare institutions were interfered with or transferred to state control. Catholic schools, press, trade unions, political parties and youth leagues were eradicated. Anti-Catholic propaganda and "morality" trials were staged. Monasteries and convents were targeted for expropriation. Prominent Catholic lay leaders were murdered, and thousands of Catholic activists were arrested.

In all, an estimated one third of German priests faced some form of reprisal in Nazi Germany and 400 German priests were sent to the dedicated Priest Barracks of Dachau Concentration Camp. Persecution of the Church in Germany was at its most severe in the annexed Polish regions. Here the Nazis set about systematically dismantling the Church and most priests were murdered, deported or forced to flee. Of the 2,720 clergy imprisoned at Dachau from Germany and occupied territories, 2,579 (or 94.88%) were Catholic.

I think he was baptized a Catholic and never renounced his faith.

That being said he had put alot of Non Christian principles in his faith

Just the concept of an Ancient Aryan race which once ruled all the world alone was almost
semi religious the Nazis also introduced also alot of Pre Christian pagan beliefs and conceptions from Ancient
Germanic and other old Indoeuropean cultures till Iranian or Hindu where they borrowed the concept and name of Aryan
from and mixed them with their somehow darwinistic racial notions.

He certainly did not follow Christian principles ideologically or politically
The Talmud tells us that the only language the Torah could be translated into elegantly is Greek.
