The correlation between marxism and "cultural marxism" is not really that large. Cultural marxist, which I'd say you correlate with the Frankfurt school, critical race theory and the "deconstruct the norm" types. I also feel like marxist philosophy, which hinges around the idea that power stems from economic control is legitimate, and the fact that some wacky professors conclude that it means we must abolish masculinity or whiteness or whatever doesn't negate that.

I think you make some good points. I'm in no way an expert, but the more I try to study this issue the more I find that "classical Marxism" is a very different thing from the ideas of these "woke" intellectuals. Yes, they use Marxist concepts like critical theory from the Frankfurt School, but the latter had already been criticized long ago by "orthodox Marxists". I think nowadays there are not many classical Marxists left. These new leftist/liberal intellectuals and their followers are using a mix of different ideas to attack traditional societies and values, but class conflict, a central tenet of Marxism, doesn't seem to be their focus. And the fact that they are supported by liberals that at the same time stand for capitalism and free market seems to suggest that there is little Marx in this new left. That is a problem when trying to find correct definitions. Maybe the term "Neo-leftists/Neo-liberals" would be more appropriate than Cultural Marxists.

I think it has to do with the fact that leftism went from being dominated by socialist politicans, unions, workers and low class white men (who were sorta united) to all sorts of whacky diversity counselors, professors, college students etc. Ecomonic issue will off course not take such a large importance when most of leftist intelligentsia is comprised of above-income people. Off course corporations in the west are very happy about this, which has led to the wacky idea that modern day large corporations are "marxist", which is like saying that a jew is a nazi....

It's nothing new as people claim though. Whatever big corporations promote is what they think will resonate with most of their consumers. I remember the iconic meme where Bethesda or some company turned all their twitter accounts to the LGBT rainbow except for the middle eastern one. It's just how capitalism works, if you get an edge with your consumers, you must and should take it.
