Turkey is a Muslim country by demographics for example, and yet, their country is secular and democratic.

In Turkey, it was a reaction to the disgraceful way that the Ottoman Empire ended. Sultan Abdul Hamid II and Sultan AbudAziz along with their ministers ( Fuad Pasha, Ali Pasha, etc ) and a corrupt clerical class were incompetent and failed to reform Turkey effectively. Turks had no choice but put an end to their rule and move the country away from Islam and the Islamic world.

I feel the Arab world along with Iran will also move in that direction over the course of time. It rather evident that the clerical regime in Iran or the Islamist movements that have spawn within the Arab world are incompetent to cure and fix the ills that their societies suffer from.

This maybe a slow process but I believe it is an inevitable one.
