Sometimes I'm like what you just described, but not always. I help people if I see that they deserve it or they really need help. Usually I'm nice to someone if I can count on him/her and he/she is a decent person.
Yesterday a friend of mine (who is 5 years older than me) told me that sometimes I'm too nice to everyone. I think this is not always a good thing because people can abuse kindness and they can take advantage of someone's good heart.

There is a Hungarian saying, in English it's something like: ,,I lend someone my hand and they want my whole arm'' which is good to describe this

Here we say, "Give 'em an inch, and they'll take a mile". Or another one is, "A favor becomes an expectation which becomes an entitlement".

I find I kinda have to be cautious with new people, until I feel them out, it was a skill I began to develop when I was around your age.
