The British Empire and the UK didn't exist in 1704 so how is there direct continuity of something that didn't exist when Gibraltar became part of the English empire? If your argument is that England is the forerunner to the UK/British Empire then surely Castille is the forerunner to modern Spain, therefore Gibraltar as a historical part of the Kingdom of Castille is rightfully Spanish.

Castille kingdom in 1492 owned to the Spanish Crown.

Anyway, Gibraltar was reconquered by Castilla in 1462. And Spain even before the marriage between Isabel de Castilla and Fernando de Aragón, already existed.

Spain described a superior entity that encompassed all peninsular kingdoms, maybe heritage of the political and administrative union under the Roman rule and then reinforced during Visigothic rule.

Sometimes even muslim "kings" in Iberian peninsula described themselves as "Spanish" in letters with Christian kings, they especially emphasized how Spanish they were when they had to ask for something.

And when foreigners wrote about Aragonese or Navarrese or Castillians, they could use the term Spanish as frequently than Aragonese etc...

Don´t know about if foreigners called also Spanish to Portugueses, better Portuguese could tell you if they did it also.

Giblartar, with rest they would have problems, if they regained them, just wait what kind of influx of immigrants would it bring to the region, CV would probably get heartattack.

Ceuta and Melilla have never belonged to Morocco. Ceuta and Melilla have been iberian cities since the Visigoths and have been portuguese and spanish cities since the end of the middle age.

I know what I'm saying it's nonsense, I'm just using the same arguments. And I understand that gibraltar belongs to the UK, but I prefer that there is no English territory on the peninsula , if they were independent I would not care.

There are many reasons to say that Gibraltar legitimately belongs to the United Kingdom, but to say that it is because Spain did not exist is sovereign stupidity.
Well, I wasn't arguing on the existence of the kingdom of Castile which in turn forged the Spanish nation we know it today here. Just saying that Gibraltar does belong to the UK and so on.

The choice belongs to the citizens of Gibraltar. And it turns out that they prefer the status quo.

I kind of think Spain should have atleast one Caribbean territory, given they discovered the region(especially since the UK/France/Netherlands still have Caribbean islands), but Spain already has warm weather vacation spots and imperialism is gay anyway.
The Guanche skulls as a whole are unlike those of modern European Mediterraneans, and resemble northern European series most closely, especially those in which a brachycephalic element is present, as in Burgundian and Alemanni series.
divided them into clearly differentiated types, which include a Mediterranean, a Nordic, a "Guanche," and an Alpine. The "Guanche" accounts for 50 per cent of the whole on the four islands of Teneriffe, Gomera, Gran Canaria, and Hierro; the Nordic for 31 per cent, the Mediterranean for 13 per cent, and the Alpine
