Why are male sex workers less stigmatised than female sex workers?

Whenever there are debates about the safety, legality or morality of prostitution, pornography, stripping or lap-dancing, the argument "would you let your daughter become..." is almost invariably mentioned. Apparently the existence of male strippers, prostitutes and porn actors is of relatively little concern. Compare and contrast how Elizabeth Berkley's career was all but wrecked by Showgirls, and how much that film is slated even today, with how Channing Tatum's career was vastly enhanced by Magic Mike.

b) My assumption is the vast majority of male sex workers are hired for gay acts, considering it's very easy and completely free for straight women to get sex from attractive men and there's less of a need for straight male prostitutes. The chance of having a son that identifies as gay and also becomes a prostitute is pretty low so there'll be less recognition

Lots of younger gays are defacto prostitutes for older gays with $$$. They usually get kicked to the curb by 25-27. There is a good photo out there with Obama meeting David Geffen for an event. Geffen brought his BF, who was still a senior in HS, Geffen was in his 60's.

This happened to Andrew Cunanan. After he got kicked to the curb he want on a murder spree and his final killing was famous Gianni Versace right outside of his mansion on Miami Beach.

Regarding female prostitution I think society generally expects women to behave better than men, thus more of a stigma.
