I don’t think Showgirls was slammed just because it showed female sex workers, it was slammed because it was just a bad movie. There was movie that came out last year staring Jennifer Lopez about female strippers that was pretty well received by critics(I thought the movie was garbage though), so much so Lopez was nominated for an Oscar. The acting in Showgirls by Elizabeth Berkley was cringe and the script was absurd. However, the movie has achieved its so bad its good cult status among moviegoers.
