We have the first blockade from Bulgaria. Today article 2 of the Friendship treaty was violated. We did not violate it before with anything we did. This is the first unpleasant feeling. We need to be smart and resolve the dispute in a friendly manner. Today a not so friendly message was sent to us from neighboring Bulgaria and the first step was blocked. Article 2 of the treaty states that Bulgaria should support us on our road to EU integration, Zaev said.

We had similar situation in Croatia, being blocked by Slovenia for more than 2 years over some disputes. You have to know EU member has right to block candidate state if they want. But I'm sure you'll resolve your issues faster than we did.

I believe the issue between Slovenia and Croatia was a border problem. The issue between Bulgaria and Macedonia has a quite different nature which involves history, language and national identity. This cannot be resolved unless Bulgaria recognizes our history, language and national identity as they are - Macedonian. I believe Macedonia should look around to find another strategic partner other than EU and probably it will be the US.
