Sorry, I don't believe that closing gyms to protect public health is a "leftist" extreme decision. Covid is deadly to old people, I have lost a good family friend to it. Even if young people aren't much affected, they can and do pass it to older people. I think that Conservatives and the Right would be more popular and successful if they stopped seeing conspiracies everywhere, from Covid to vaccines. Science is one of the biggest and unique achievements of the Western World and the White European race, and we should be proud of it. The fact that the New Left are trying to use the "science argument" for their purposes doesn't mean that science is bad and scientists are all part of a world-wide leftist conspiracy. Notice, when I talk about scientists I mean real ones, those who deal with Natural Sciences, not Sociologists, Political "scientists" and other (mostly BS) similar disciplines.

Then I guess I owe you my apologies. But I was just using it as an example. As you see from other posts here, it seems some people don't believe that Covid is dangerous (for older people or those who are weakened by some other condition), and that even using a mask is someway wrong. I know that in Sweden people have even been verbally attacked for wearing masks. Ironic enough, the Swedish government is probably the most woke in the world, but they decided to use the so called "herd immunity". Sweden got a much higher infection and death rate than other Scandinavian countries, but while Trump has been under attack for how he managed the epidemic I don't see much criticism unleashed on Swedish politicians.

The ones who downplay it as a flu should go check the deaths over recoveries ratio of either disease. It's not just some minor difference, but a whole different order of magnitude. It's not like it's Black death all over again and most people have relatively mild symptoms, but for plenty of them it can be a big deal and I don't necessarily mean death. At least in the civilized world, most diseases are either extremely rare or trivial to deal with, but not both. For a one that spreads like common cold, coronavirus can be quite harsh.

The Netherlands are a bit saner at this regard. Belgium alas... but at least Flemish people are getting sick of the non-elected government we have deciding upon this.
