“acrimony”

i used to dream before;
my heart, carved from stone,
formed through the lovely bones
of a faerie love meant to be.
that was before “they” came,
with their poisons and steely glares
bellowing laughs, godless dares;
and i said i knew better,
though my love declared me cruel
because i refused to be their fool;
and when she left, death pitied me.
he allowed me to dream once more
in the soft embrace of my beloved.
this time, i wept freely for love’s sake.

midnight’s crescent peaked,
soft peach among blushing cheeks;
one petal plucked says yes,

and so the evening goes like this,

the moonlit rivers tread deep in thought.

steady rhythmic tap of the rope,
sweat pours from pores,
my body aches and my heart pounds,
yet the only sound i can hear
is the deafening cheer of the crowd
when i’m crowned victor
after the long journey.
in between now and forever,
my only endeavor remains
to prove myself true
and become the man, the myth,
the champ i’ve always been.
i’ve finally come home!
