Many Austrians when I grew up in Austria called me turk (they include those swarthy eastern turkey kurds too in that category). Usually Turk doesnt mean in austria what it means on TA, on TA it means balkan white european looking in austria it means swarthy, hairy, non-white (poc) and muslim, i was randomly called ahmed (on the streets on austrian shouted "hey ahmed"), and muslim etc. and turk. In school when i flashed back my hair downside, they said I look like a turkish girl. They said "pull back your hair" hahahaha
when i did this
On TA and in Turkey it is probably different, thats why I ask. There it means you are white if you are turk and I would be a gypsy, what many told me Kivan, Itilvolga and many other turks. Right?
I think it is for the same reason, why americans call me chicano, because thats the default brown ethnicity, or non-white and immigrant. In austria 20 years ago when I grew up before the refugees came turks were the quintessential brown/muslim/non-white ethnicity. Thats why americans call me chicano or mexican but not europeans, because in europe latinos are cool and rare, and popular, not in USA though.
