Ironically losing the Spanish-American War was a good thing for Spain. Although Catalan businessmen weren't happy about it since they were heavily involved in the Cuban sugar trade.

America is a gigantic spiderweb bureaucracy more than an oligarchy, IMO. We probably agree that there are a few big interests at the top, but an oligarchy wouldn't have millions of employees across hundreds of alphabet soup agencies, like we do. For an oligarchy to allow the dilution of its own power through such bureaucratization sounds irresponsible. Correct me if wrong

The government and bereaucracy work for the oligarchy similar to how cops work for ZioCorp and not for the taxpayers.

The loss of Cuba was a major factor in the Catalan independence movement. It started off as a big business movement upset that it lost its monopoly.

At the end of the day, almost everything comes down to economics.

Interestingly, while the UNHDI ranks Puerto Rico below any US state, Quebec is ranked the fourth-most developed Canadian province: https://www.theapricity.com/forum/sh...are-comparable
