24 yo Belgian kills herself due to coronavirus

She had to close her hairdressing salon due o the pandemic and lost everything. How many people are in her case, on the edge of the abyss in an economic point of view? I can’t imagine the socio-economic disaster we will face.

And the thing is, most people I know disagree with shutting down those businesses. Sad to see her go. She was still in the flower of her life. If she lived in the Netherlands she probably still would have been alive. The lockdown might end up killing more people than the pandemic itself.

I plan on moving to the Netherlands hence my Dutch flag, but I actually live in a neighbouring village to the South in Belgium. I do visit a Belgian barber and I remain loyal to them despite them being shut down. I could visit a Dutch barber, but I think the relationship between barber and client often is too strong to just change barber.

Even during lockdown barbershops are still open in Norway. I don't see the logic in closing them, rather you can impose strict measures that still don't defeat the purpose of them; making booking mandatory, barbers wearing masks, making it so that a maximum of 5 clients can be in the barbershop simultaneously etc. Barbershops are one of the only businesses that can survive even with strict rules. A bar or a club wouldn't be able to survive with such strict measurements put in place. Still, government lockdowns are almost always unreasonable and unscientific so I'm just babbling here...

That's really sad. Reading stories like these really make me feel sad and down, man. Just recently, I was reading a story of an Indian actress who died the same way. Sigh.

city dwellers are very exposed in case of any disruption - the countryside people that can eat out of their land will make it longer, overall. urban culture is not sustainable on the long term.
