Nobody truly knows. But Belgium has two things: 1) an identity crisis in a rapidly changing state with somewhat of a kaskaesque structure 2) an introverted population. People tend to bottle up their worries rather than seek help. Also, people take a lot of time before they trust someone and people hide emotions very well. A side effect is that sticking out one's neck makes one feel judged hard. Popular people often show that blasé type of hedonism as well, I notice.

This problem is big Belgium-wide, by the way.

So in a way Loki is right in a way. De-spirited society, but not beyond help, as I think Belgium will improve since people truly are thinking about these problems.
