It would make more sense to have the Germans with the help of the Austrians, Swiss-Germans and Alsace-Lorraine or something like than Germans with the help of the Jews. Britain had a Jewish population, as well, that was let back into the country during the time of Oliver Cromwell or something like that.

When it comes to mechanical engineering standards most of the ISO is taken from German standard (DIN). Physics and most of mathematics is also dominated by Germans. English folks "lead" in fields related to electrical engineering, and perhaps disciplines such as biology, sociology etc

Germans and Frenchmen win if we talk about the amount of mathematicians produced. But i wouldn't put anyone over the Brits when talking about physics. Just look at the names like Isaac Newton, James Clerk Maxwell and Faraday, they changed the world. Holy trinity.
