Maybe able to play 1440p at 60 hz

My cpu is 3.6 gigahertz witha desktop 1080 gpu. I get 1440p 60 hz on it regularly on high settings.

The gpu is much more inportant. But hunting for gpus now is shit because of things being out of stock and scalpers ripping people off. If you have throw away money like that, go for it.

I would invest in a new cpu and just wait for the new amd or nvidia cards to be in stock.
What kind of laptop you have?
Its not simple to swap out laptop parts in general. You sound like you can swap out both cpu and gpu's.


Ssd is basically essential if you dont want crazy load times.
M.2 nvme is the better option if you dont mind paying extra for faster read speeds
