Very distant. I haven't listed my 3 step matches because I have much closer matches including 3 full matches. Your matches could be over 10,000 years ago so not really informative IMO. What is interesting is that you don't get closer matches. What's the reason for that? That's what I would find interesting.

I've spoken to someone who has a 1 step match with me from Eastern Norway. That's about 1,000 years ago and I wonder if it is some Gaelic connection or from a Scandinavian that came to Ireland. It is also interesting with the Swedish Viking connection. It does make me think there is some Viking connection with this. Very difficult to know really but this is why mtdna is so interesting.

Possibly not many people have tested from your part of the world. I think FTDNA is very American/British Isles centric. FTDNA is the best for ydna and mtdna but it is definitely more British/Irish/Anglosphere as far as testing goes. I think it will be a few years before these tests are more informative due to lack of testing in many countries.
