Let us be clear here if there was political turmoil and there were fascists and marxists as the only two contending political parties the ruling Capitalist class would side with the racist fascists to try to hold on to power.

You just gave Virginia as an example, and that very much is part of the South, regardless of it's current political leanings. You probably would find more "racism" in the small backwater areas of the Northern megalopolis (between Boston and Philadelphia). The South is far more integrated.

Boston is possibly the most racist place in the north. Lots of racists in NJ, too. However, if you compare OVERALL, the south is far more racist. Even I had issues with the Klan, in the town I used to live in. Not even a super rural area, tbh.
