The very different societal reactions to Showgirls and Magic Mike do indeed reveal something deeper: whether due to the lingering effects of religion, radical feminism, or some ironic combination of both, we're still much more uncomfortable with the idea of women using their sexuality for their own gain than with men doing the same.
