Hi all!

I'm InDefens, I found this place looking for somewhere to discuss politics and society that's neither dominated by the woke army nor by alt-right edgelords, so after having a bit of a shufty here I decided to register cause yous lot seem decent enough

I've described my politics as "Tartan Tory" but that's not quite the whole truth - I am socially conservative and a Scottish nationalist, but I'm also quite left-wing economically. Not Marxist by any means, but I like ideas like mutualism and distributism and I'm also intrigued by the idea of a universal basic income.

I'm also a Eurosceptic even though I'm broadly supportive of intra-European migration (within reason), though I'll admit to being biased by the fact that both my parents are immigrants (German and Polish respectively)

So basically I'm a very very reluctant SNP voter because I want independence but I don't want Scotland to rejoin the EU, nor obviously am I on board with the progressive agenda the SNP's been pushing. Just your regular old misfit, me!

Also a Catholic, but the more I read into things the more sceptical I become of Vatican II: Electric Boogaloo, so...yeah. Even in religion I'm a contrarian, I guess...

On that note I do have a question: How do you get those wee banners under your username saying "Catholic" etc? (...though given my insurpassable talent for making a complete tit of myself, I'm half expecting to find once I've posted this that I've already got them automatically somehow )

Welcome. I knew it would be a Scot based on the thread title.

SNP is fairly broad. SNP voters in Perthshire are quite different to the Central Belt for example.

There should be more voting choice imo because a large chunk of Scot won't ever vote Conservative, Labour or Lib Dem, but not a fan of the SNP.
