    Default Erdogan: Turkey is in Europe

    “We see ourselves nowhere else but in Europe. We contemplate to build our future together with Europe,” Erdogan said on Nov. 21, adding that the country seeks stronger cooperation with its allies.

    "We want to be in stronger cooperation with our friends and allies," he said.

    Erdogan urged the European Union to "keep its promises, not to discriminate, and at least not to be a tool of explicit hostility against Turkey."

    Turkey is not an European country nor has an European culture. It is a bit contradictory if you Arabize your people and say we belong to Europe.

    It's hard for Turkey to become an EU member with populism on the rise in various parts of EU in the near future but when AKP is gone Turkey will further associate with the EU. I cheer for EU membership simply because;

    1 - Turkey is at crossroads and it has to align with something. I don't want Turkey to be involved in the Middle East, and not allied with Iran, Russia, China etc. so the only option left is the West and since Turkey's a member of NATO, the West is Turkey's traditional ally.
    2 - For advanced democratic and economic reforms.
    3 - There has been an almost 300-year old political tradition of facing towards the West and it should be maintained.
