which combat sports do you prefer, boxing or MMA?

Here is an instance where an MMA guy beat a boxer and an instance where a former boxing heavyweight champ beat a former heavyweight UFC champ (but was basically nothing more than a brawler).





Tim Sylvia made the mistake of trying to strike with a professional boxer. If he had gone for the takedown like Randy Couture did against James Toney the results would have been different. I don't think Sylvia wrestled in high school but I do know he won grappling tournaments as an adult. Although I don't recall him trying to wrestle anyone in MMA. He was basically a brawler.

If you worried about getting punched in the head dont participate. You will get punched in the head.

With that said mma is better because you learn to incorperate many more types of skills aside from just striking

Boxing. It's classier than MMA. MMA can't match this:

MMA for sure. Compared to MMA, boxing is like fighting with hands behind the back or like that Japanese way of fighting on your knees - too many restrictions.

Among younger people MMA is more popular, among older generations boxing mostly. Well I'm exception to that, I prefer boxing. MMA seems too savage. But I think MMA is less affected by money and politics than boxing.

Which sport would you train? I'd like to train in either (not a very girly pursuit, heheh) but am undecided. Strictly on amateur level ofc.

Because in boxing you get punched in the head mostly, in MMA you get punched everywhere + half of it's wrestling/grappling.

Yes, I'm aware of that. But you wear helmet during sparring, you can even get one with nose protection.
I really love boxing and since making the thread been leaning lot more towards it.

Yes, now I see it. I didn't read the whole first post, only the beginning, sorry. I also saw the other post where you said your family finds MMA disgusting.

Personally I think training in any of these sports makes sense only if you want to participate in competitions.

If I were you, I'd attend a couple of training sessions to see what it is like and if you don't like it you just stop going - lots of people do this in many sports.
