From what I've seen of genetics of Turks is that they're basically half local Anatolians and half Turkic, and their Turkic ancestors were heavily mixed with the Indo-European peoples of Asia and so on. And for him to say that Mongolians are Turks is pure..ugh. The thing is though is that Americans have a tendency in seeing ethnicity as no different from race which is beyond bullshit. Race is something that you cannot change which is something evolved by mother nature which is true for genetics while ethnic identities are man made social constructs. Being Turkic is not about being racially Mongoloid and so on, and the Oghuz Turkic tribes were already diverse when they first entered Anatolia and Azerbaijan and so on. It's the same for other ethnic identities be it based on religious grounds like Jews or Copts, linguistic like Turkish or Arab, and so on.
