Default How much does your background (race, social class, religion, gender, sexual orientation etc.)

... influence your political opinion? I was just wondering whether my political opinions are because Im who I am. Or I would have the same opinions if I were someone or something else. For example do you think Im not racist because Im a gypsy myself, and if thats only because Im a gypsy, would the reverse be true that you are only racist because you are white or X? That would basically be the same, because some said Im anti-racist because im gypsy, so are you racist because you are european or X or white? If not why is it different?

Good question. I think my background influences my political opinion, but it isn't dicothomic and maybe internal conflicts can occur, like as religion versus sexual orientation, local social repression (eg. living in a Socialist Dictatorial Government and being a Libertarian Anarchist), etc. I put it in into a scale and try to find a common divisor. In my opinion, religion, traditions (European, for me) and honesty are the most important things.

Personally, not rlly at all. Ik some families with a more religious background will lead to certain leanings but I don’t have that as I’m agnostic.

I was born into a middle class professional household and I'm a Communist/Marxist but the middle classes can vacillate between the upper and lower classes so I spent some time within the working class and even though I'm living more middle class now I'm still a Communist/Marxist. However, it took significant effort by myself to see through the propaganda and the status quo of my given society which is not easy per se and it is the road less travelled it seems.

As a Polish person, I tend to be often blunt and non-PC about certain things, but I'm trying to fight with that, as I hate conservatism.
My parents are quite conservative, so the background might have something in common.

I am mixed but that really doesn’t affect anything just gives me a sense of connection with pretty much everyone, so no one can race guilt me into making any kind of political decisions which I see this method is kind of practiced in social media, I am a guy but I was raised by my mom so I have a sense of why gender equality is very important, I was born into a middle upper class family so I am just a normal kid but ik the effort u have to make if u want a decent life since I saw that effort in my parents, and I am straight but I know that no one deserves to be discriminated for something they can’t control.

So race, gender, social class and sexual orientation don’t really affect that much tbh I think mostly background/country/location and religion is what affects the most. When I lived in the USA I went to a really liberal school and that made me really liberal/democrat myself, when I moved to Mexico I went to a really religious conservative school and that made me a centrist, since I kept a lot of core ideas from the states but implanted a lot of what I learned at school and that why I am neither left or right lol. Religion also affects a lot of my thinking, but I try to limit that a little and try to be a little more rational, I am a Catholic.

It's hard to say because I try my best to separate any subjective opinion / experience I may have when I'm trying to be objective about some particular matter.

But socioeconomic differences is probably what affect my perception of the world the most.

I would say quite a bit. I am a late Gen Xer (born in 1979) and most people my age and younger are very liberal on average , because they were raised by Baby Boomers. My parents, on the other hand, were born in the glorious 1930s, and I was around older adults a lot of my young life, so I picked up on a lot of their teachings. I think for myself, but I have values that I would never change. I am a devout Christian and I have flaws, but I respect my elders. I think that's why I think more like someone who was born in the 1930s.
