Default What places should I visit in Portugal?

I'm thinking, God willing, of going to Portugal next year. Where should I pay a visit?

Lisbon is very beautiful, you should definitely go for it.

In the surroundings of Lisbon, I really loved Sintra where you can visit :

    - Quinta da Regaleira
    - Parque e Palacio Nacional de Pena
    - Cabo da Roca (very nice view on the ocean)
    - Praia da Adraga (such a beautiful beach! )

Besides what was already stated, and from South to North:
Ria Formosa, Costa Vicentina, Alqueva Lake and Monsaraz, Évora, the coast from Setúbal to Cabo Espichel, Óbidos, Nazaré (especially if there are good waves), Coimbra, Serra da Estrela (Lagoa Comprida, Torre, Covão d'Ametade, Penhas Douradas, Vale do Rossim), Aveiro, Porto, Guimarães, Gêres (Lamas de Mouro, Castro Laboreiro, Peneda, Lindoso, Pedra Bela, Albufeira da Caniçada, etc), Barragem do Alto Rabagão, Chaves. Plus Madeira and Azores.

If you want a good tan with beautiful beaches go to the south Algarve from Sagres all the way to Vila Real de Santo Antonio

Lisbon, Porto or Sintra are obvious choices and good ones. Less obvious choices would be for example:

    Guimarães

    Monsaraz

That depends of what you're looking for, your expectations and your time available.
The most important cities are the capital Lisbon and Porto. If you are looking for a more cosmopolitan spot to visit I would go mostly for Lisbon and surroundings. If you are looking for a beach destination I would travel south to the shores of Alentejo and Algarve and for mountain you have Serra da Estrela. If you are looking for a more traditional atmosphere I suggest you the Northern part of the country, which I shameless have a bias in favour of. You can visit Porto, and from there due to proximity get access to cities like Guimarães (the cradle of our nation, and one of my favourite cities) but also Braga, Barcelos, Viana do Castelo etc. And if you are into nature you can check Gerês or pick a boat in Porto and make a cruise along the Douro Valley.

    Douro Valley:

    Porto:

    Peneda-Gerês:

PS: Madeira and Azores are totally worthy of a visit as well.

Plus Madeira and Azores.
I'd also recommend visiting Berlenga Island (São João Batista Fort (has rooms available during high season, it's also worth the visit by itself), lightouse, main town and beach. Furado Grande sea cave - definitely reccomend crossing by boat, etc)

    ------------------

Gardunha Mountains - Natura Glamping, with view to Estrela

    ------------------

    of the highlighted places:

Estrela Mountians- Vale do Rossim camping and reservoir, as I mentioned before (you can jump from the dam, me and my friends did it a lot, we camped there twice), Manteigas is also cool

    Vale do Rossim

    ------------------

In Peneda-Gerês National Park and around, there are a lot of lakes, such as the Alto Rabagão, the others mentioned, and more; Lamas de Mouro has another superb camping park, where I also camped with friends

    Lamas de Mouro

    ------------------

Madeira Island - Funchal (cable car to Monte - Monte Palace gardens and tobogan rides), Ponta de São Lourenço, Cabo Girão, Câmara de Lobos, La Parreira Restaurant in Campanário has great skewered, Ponta do Pargo, Porto Moniz natural pools, Véu da Noiva waterfall, São Vicente (the caves, and Caravela Restaurant has great limpets), Santana theme park, Ponta do Garajau, Risco Waterfall levada and the tunnel, Fanal, Bica da Cana, Paúl da Serra, Serra de Água has great Poncha, Pico Ruivo, etc)

great drone footage of the snowed mountains

    ------------------

    Douro Valley
It's very extensive, transversing various provinces, with different landscapes.

Companies such as Douro Azul and Barcadouro have a varied offer of cruises there, some with rooms for sleepover available; there are also trains (including steam); and flowering almond trees during blossiming season, in March.

If you want beaches... come to the Algarve.

    Portimão:

    Ferragudo (beautiful fishing village):

    Sagres:

Also you should visit Evora in Alentejo:

And of course, Lisbon, Porto, and Braga.
