Do you actually speak Romanian? This is a normal Romanian word (synonym of "noroi") of East Slavic origin, hence the expression "inglodat in datorii"... As for -eni ending, although it's of Slavic origin, it only occurs in Romanian placenames, so Glodeni makes total sense in Romanian as "people who leave in a muddy place".

As for Slavic influence in Northern Moldovans (incl. those from Republic) it's very significant, but still not majority!

The toponym name is not that relevant as people come and go. Glodeni is a district (our smaller administrative version of your counties).
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gloden...#Ethnic_groups

Regarding the Slavic influence, it's more or less the same throughout Republic of Moldova, but with dips in the South. If I were to go by the K13 calculator, a sum in the range of 48% to 58% for North Atlantic and Baltic components should capture about 90% of the genetic variety for people in my database who identify as ethnic Moldovan/Romanian. And they are more likely as a rule of thumb to receive close single distance values on Vahaduo (<5) not only for at least one Moldovan region, but also others in Europe. If this condition is not met, then it is clear that the ancestry is more complicated.

There are already enough samples in the database to paint a clear picture that for 1/2 Ukrainian/Polish/Russian, 1/2 Moldovan/Romanian ethnics, with origins in the Centre or North of the country, the sum of North Atlantic and Baltic starts at about 61%.

Therefore, at about 61%+ it gets into very recent (full ethnic parent level) mixed territory.

Starting from around 64%, we have individuals who identify as solely ethnic Ukrainians.

This is not some kind of untested hypothesis, but the conclusion after thousands of hours of hard work talking to people and crunching the numbers. It is also backed up by what can be seen on commercial tests (see my 23andme thread for example), where people offer family trees, locations and openly talk about the ethnicity of ancestors.

And as mentioned, people of very recent mixed ethnic origins (1/2 and in rarer cases 1/4, while 1/8+ should be impossible to detect unless something very distinct like Jewish or Roma) are easy to spot by elevated distances (>5) to any population in Europe.

And this is not a case of necessarily just scoring higher North Atlantic and Baltic values, since for others in this upper boundary range (see below) the distances are quite sweet. It is rather due to the recent (1/2, and in rarer cases 1/4) admixture creating weird values for each individual component and when looked at as a whole are very different from unmixed people anywhere in Europe.

I've only focused on Republic of Moldova in this post, but there are examples like that in Northern Moldavia from Romania too.

They are noticeably darker haired than Poles. And I spotted a look alike of Ryujin who is from Turkey, albeit he's among the European looking Turks.

Are these results typical for someone from Bucovina? I.e. me?

Hard to tell because you didn't say what your ethnicity is. You describe your meta as Slavic in the profile, so I assume Ukrainian? Can you post the K13 values, like North Atlantic, Baltic, Med, etc.?

    So Suceava county?
It looks like you are Romanian to me. Is this the native language of your parents?
Such results are common in the region among Romanians, but Ukrainians from Northern Bukovina score differently.

Thanks. That's hepful. Yes, Romanian is the native language of both parents. My mother's grandmother (born 1920) was from Chernivtsi and spoke Russian and her surname was Timciuc. My father's grandmother's surname was Miklos, which is Hungarian. My father's surname was Pitak (Romanianised to Pitac). My father's father's surname was Moldovan.
