    Default Longly

I have been around this board for a while now trying to get a feeling for the place and decide if I want to hang around, so I figure it is about time that introduces myself. My user name is Longly; I took it from Wild Bill Longley a historical character from Texas history. I chose it because it is short and memorable and I had just read about him. I use it on every forum I join. I don’t believe in multiple accounts.

I am also not easily offended and I try not to offend others. I don’t like fighting or arguing or other dramatics. I like discussing an interesting topic and learning a little as I go along. I am not particularly interested in attention and I don’t have an ego to feed.

I especially like history and anthropology. I used to be a member of Anthroscape, but a couple of years ago that site started going downhill, and just recently it has been hacked and shut down. I don’t see why anyone would want to do that; I reckon some people are just intolerant. At any rate, it was a poster on that site that recommended this forum.

I have two belief systems that I base my life on; one is a belief in God, and the other is a belief in science. Some people believe the two are incompatible but I don’t. Don’t expect to see any post on religion because I believe in God because I want to, science on the other has to prove itself. If you can show me where I am wrong about something, I am willing to change my mind, but you have to have proof that I can evaluate.

No, I just like history, and Texas has a more interesting history. I am from Louisiana; my daughter and grandchildren live in Texas. The boys are born Texans. But, as far as I know, none of them have cowboy boots and hats. I told them they should be ashamed of themselves to call themselves Texans; they just smiled.

No French, I am from Anglo north Louisiana. My people moved in here about a hundred years ago. They came from Mississippi a little after the turn of the nineteenth century. As far as I have been able to learn, my European ancestors have been in the US for the better part of three hundred years. Most of my ancestry is northern European and Amerindian, with a little from Iberia, North Africa, and SSA. I am about 23 percent Amerindian and about 75 percent European. My great grandmother was Choctaw.

Choctaw? That’s pretty cool. Most of my ancestry is North Western European and a small percentage of SSA. I was able to confirm it through documentation so that was pretty cool. My Cajun family all reside in Lafayette.
