Lol, I forgot that Klubbheads was hardbass. I think we had both of those tracks on pirated CDs we bought from Russia.
Their release "Kickin' Hard" is the first title listed under the genre "scouse house" by Rate Your Music (https://rateyourmusic.com/genre/Scouse+House/):
Scouse house is a subgenre of UK Hard House music that features an upbeat and energetic sound often described as being "bouncy", often carrying a slightly faster and upbeat pace in comparison to other hard house music and the usage of "pipe"-like bass patterns, consisting of a metallic-sounding synth carrying off-beat 4x4 notes (popularly known as 'donk'). The genre originally developed in early 2000s Liverpool and the other cities in the northwest of England. Scouse house has been influenced somewhat by Happy Hardcore and Bouncy Techno, both often sampled by scouse house producers, MCing techniques from the 90s rave live-set culture, and the pumping house sound of the late 1990s initiated by Dutch producer duo Klubbheads.
Many of the next oldest scouse house releases listed by Rate Your Music are by Russian artists. Apparently the term "donk" for the squarewave bassline was also used in scouse house.
In the Wikipedia article called Timeline of electronic music genres, the only genres which are listed as having originated in Russia are hardbass and darkpsy.
Darkpsy is listed as having originated in Europe and Russia, but I don't think it's accurate, or it should at least be the other way around, because Parasense from Moscow is considered to be the first real darkpsy artist (https://www.psynews.org/forums/topic...dark-psy-born/):
IMO Parasense were the first ones 10 years ago. Few melodies, syncopated rhythmic, bizarre production (they didn't know how to work with hi-hats actually)... [...]
Darkpsy as we know it started by Parasense. Of course Parasense were influnced by older artists and X-Dream was one of them. [...]
Now that you guys mentioned, my memory also points to Parasense as the first time I heard dark-psy. I remember I thought it was way too fast - if only I could imagine that it would get even faster, as we hear currently. [...]
If you want the artists that defined dark trance as you hear it today, then it is Parasense. But they basically took the sound that was considered hip around their time to another level, and the sound that was considered hip around the turn of the century was X-Dream and various side-projects like The Delta, Midi Miliz, C.O.P. etc. And of course, they in turn took massive influence from the techno scene.
