Can someone explain the cross race effect to me?
For example I've heard people say that all Asians (east AND southeast ) look the same to them or I've even heard very few people say all brown people (South Asian to MENA and even some Southern Europeans/Latinos) look the same to them. ? What's the science behind it? Are people so stupid they can't tell the difference?
2nd question:
I've even heard many Indians say they look like white people or especially Middle eastern people and they seem to have a habit for confusing MENA people (and even some white people) as their own. I saw a video where a Romanian women who spoke Urdu asked Pakistanis where they thought she was from, and they all said Pakistan lmao and Pakistanis in the comment section said she looked Pakistani too eventhough she looked White AF. Elena Urdu Vlogs is the channel.
Ive heard many non Hispanics (like Indians or MENA people) say that Hispanic people in the US confuse them as one of their own and I saw a vlog of Mexican lady who went to India and people thought she was Indian looooollll.

Arabs can't even tell themselves apart from non-Arab Latinos for fucks sake.

So in conclusion, what's the scientific reason people confuse other ethnicities as their own (even if they stand out/look slightly different)?
