An interesting index here. Based on these measurements Mexico, Colombia (!), Uruguay, Argentina and Brazil are more socially libertarian than the US, with Chile and Ecuador only just behind. Although all those countries are more restrictive than the US on so-called bioethical issues, it is more than counterbalanced by the USA's stricter stances on drugs and sexuality: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_..._Moral_Freedom

Argentina and Uruguay are conservative, Brazil is conservative in the region of immigrants. The rest may be freedom from the colonial era, there were already one or two races without regular marriage. Spaniards are more conservative than Portuguese and South Italians.

My answer somewhat expands on this post:

Now we have many NGO talking about minorities and human rights, supported by USA.
Certainly Freemasonry has played a role in Latin America.
American freemasons support Mexico rebels against pro Catholic forces civil war. And what about the earlier independence movements (moving away from Spanish empire/King).
Another American secret society Knights of the Golden Circle (American South/Confederates) wanted to use parts of Latin America to further continue slave trade.

After WWII there has been Anglo-American influence in Latin America with Rockefeller and beyond. It seems that in some ways Latin America got more "American" since then. Here enter the corporations, the coups, and such. Neoliberalism (economy) enters in Chile too.
At the same time, American Evangelical influence has also entered countries in Central America and Brazil.
