I watched the movie Katyn last night. I bought the DVD and damn the NKVD was ruthless. I really did not understand the ruthlessness of it all until I watched this movie. It's something that VERY few American are even aware of.

I'm guessing the Soviets did not want a powerful Poland on their borders after the war??? They did defeat them twenty years earlier.

Yes, they wanted to remove officers and intelligence because nation without the elites will be helpless during the war and later it would be easier to estabilish new socialist society.

It seems like the Polish history of suffering will never be mainstream, even though Polish people deserve more recognition.

The U.S. is not a good measuring stick. We tend to be self absorbed.

I don't believe that for a minute. Those political officers would have been shooting them left and right.
