Morocco & Algeria each have more arable land than Italy (78,155 & 73,833 sq/km, respectively, to Italy’s 68,697), and Africa Minor (Tunisia & Libya) is at 47,534 sq/km, more than e.g. Hungary. Together, out of the countries of the former Roman empire, only France & Turkey (barely) exceed them. Today, the countries of the Maghreb possess a third of the arable land that is present in the entire Arab world (with Sudan alone possessing another third). The Maghreb was and still is prime agricultural real estate. Moreover the biggest reserve of cedar in the arab world is not in Lebanon but Morocco.
