Jakob emailed me when I said I was headed to the Arctic, offering to help out with a video. I don't think he knew what he was signing up for! Denmark is building an $8.2 billion tunnel across the Baltic Sea to Germany. The Fehmarnbelt is a thin, shallow Baltic sea channel separating Scandinavia and mainland Europe. Denmark is going to span it with a massive tunnel featuring a 4-lane highway and 2 rail lines. The Fehmarnbelt tunnel will increase transport efficiency, positively affect the environment, increase local tourism and improve connectivity. By its completion in 2029, the tunnel will break world records and change the economies of the region. Seit 1963 verbindet die Eisenbahn-Fähre zwischen Puttgarden auf Fehmarn und Rødby auf Lolland Deutschland und Dänemark miteinander. Die sogenannte Vogelfluglinie ist bis heute der kürzeste Weg zwischen Hamburg und Kopenhagen. In historischen Filmen wird die Zeit im Eröffnungsjahr gezeigt.
