    Default Ataturk's house in Thessaloniki

Ataturk was born in this house in Thessaloniki, that time part of the Ottoman Empire. After Thessaloniki seceded; the house was inhabited by a family of Pontic Greeks who migrated to Greece after the mutual population exchange if 1923. In 1933, the municipality of Thessaloniki bought the house from the family and handed it to Ataturk as a present and a sign of friendship between two nations. The house has been turned into a museum and is a property of the Turkish consulate in Thessaloniki today.

It is located at the Apostolou Pavlou street. The previous mayor of Thessaloniki, Yiannis Boutaris, attempted to change the street name the house was located in to Kemal Ataturk, but it did not happen. Boutaris was attacked by a far-right extremist group.

    Meanwhile, Hagia Sophia...
No need to imagine Turkey's reaction if this property turned to a mini market or something.

I am upset about Hagia Sophia. Ataturk turned it into a museum because this place is full of ancient history. A lot of Byzantine figures were covered with plaster which was forgotten. Thanks to Ataturk all these figures came into appear after he made it a museum. I support his decision and I hope it will become a museum again.
