Default NAPOLEON BONAPARTE - Greatest European who ever lived?

For me amongst TOP 10 european ALL TIME GREATS people of all time, he was... THE BEST, and no one can beat Napoleon in his legacy or what he managed to achieve in his time.

Vive la France! Vive la l'empereur! Vive Napoléon!

Hitler when it comes about strategy and war WAS A RETARD in comparison to Napoleon, not to mention that Napoleon was spreading freedom. He was the only Conquerer and Emperor who other nations and ethnics WANTED TO BE CONQUERED BY.

Never in history anyone recorded case like this, only with this... GREAT MAN, Napoleon.

He was the EMPEROR OF ENTIRE EUROPE (70% of Europe) by his age of 30.

He wanted to recreate Roman Empire trough France Empire, and he managed to do that, only in my opinion Napoleon was greater genius than Caesar or Alexander the great, yeah I know this are big words, but to me he was and I've read a lot about all of them.

Napoleon was not only THE BEST MILITARY GENIUS and general of all time, he was also (for those who don't know) great in Philosophy, Friedrich Hegel and others respect Napoleon philosphical ideas VERY MUCH, and I think that says a lot.

No military general, emperor or king can equal Napoleon genius, no one, this are facts.

Hegel once described Napoleon as "world history on horseback".

But he was not the only one; a few other warriors and strategists have been as fascinating, like short-lived comets in our young history: Julius Caesar and Alexander the Great for instance. Alexander almost succeeded in building a perennial Eurasian cultural area, where Plato would fusion with Buddha.

I always find it strange how the French admire Napoleon so much, he was a genius in the field absolutely, hard to think of a greater General than him, maybe Alexander, Caesar, Frederick, or General Lee the only to come close.

Apart from standardising driving on the right, what did Napoleon actually achieve though?

Great General that he was he abandoned his army in Egypt and left 400,000 soldiers to freeze to death in Russia. He was responsible for more deaths of French people than anyone else in history, achieved nothing, yet he is venerated in France? Always surprises me

'Greatest European' should not go to a megalomaniac whose achievements centred on lots of people dying for his own ego, I wouldnt have thought

I consider those people who created almost from scratch to be great rulers. Alexander and Caesar are not among the great rulers.
Among the great rulers are: 1) Philip, father of Alexander, 2) Marcus Furius Camillus among the Romans, 3) Lycurgus of Spartan, 4) Henry the Navigator from Portugal, the first organizer of sea expeditions, 5) Abd Ar-Rahman I from Muslim Spain, 6) Theodoric the Great from the Ostrogoth kingdom. Also candidates are Constantine the Great, who converted to Christianity, Avar Khagan Bayan, who crushed the power of the Roman Empire.

Caesar and Napoleon were defeated in their lifetime. Alexander's empire collapsed and disappeared after his death at a young age. On the contrary, Philip laid the foundation for a great empire, Lycurgus of Sparta is the face of Classical Hellas, Marcus Furius Camillus taught the Romans discipline and achieved outstanding victories, laid the foundation for future greatness. Henry the Navigator laid the seed of the European colonial empire, the remnants of which remain today.

Well, there's no doubt he was one of the most formidable. He was also responsible for the deaths of millions of Europeans and decades of ruinous war.

Even though I identify with the British at Waterloo, and being something of a Germanist, I root for the Germans when I hear the story of German unification, I admire Napoleon for spreading enlightenment ideals and a simple, uniform code of law for all of Western Europe.
