Land of warm people and mediterranean european architecture, land where I could spend my entire life, really I have that feeling, land of history... beauty, land of beautiful women...

Spain was always amongst my favorite countries.

Never been there, but I will come, one day.

All parts of Spain are attractive to me, but for some ... reason even I cannot explain... I find Castille and Andalusia the most attractive.

I am very proud to be Spanish personally, would not want to be anything else in a million years, believe me....but there is kind of like a widespread and internalized self hate in many of us. This is difficult to explain to people who are not Spanish, but in a way its our perverse way of displaying patriotism. It is like American exceptionalism but simply reversed....Americans think they are the best, we think we are the worst, and damn all those pesky guiris who try to tell us otherwise!!!!

It is almost like by pointing out our worst traits, we are, in actuality, pointing out how different and better at being bad than everybody else we are, as if it is some distinctive phenomenon exclusive to us: "We're not like the others, we're different." Its hard to explain to a foreigner if you've never been to Spain or are not close with Spaniards.

Ohhhhhh m8, believe me I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT KIND OF SELF-LOATHING YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT.

We Greeks literally degrade ourselves all the fucking time. Like, all the time. We literally rant for hours on end how bad we are... In every single sector. From politics, to EVEN FUCKING RECYCLING AND TREATMENT OF DISABLED INDIVIDUALS.

They always say "το Ελλάντα είναι τριτοκοσμική χώρα/μπανανία" (Greece is a third world country/banana republic) for everything. And for every sector they use their own "data" while ignoring the actual ones that prove that this is not the case.

Despite the fact we are performing quite well on many, many sectors. For example in recycling, as I told you earlier, about 85% of all materials in Greece on average is recycled. With percentages of 100% in cartons/paper and refined oils. In... I don't know, gender equality, they bring up fucking 10 year old sources showing we're at the bottom in the EU, while the most recent data show we're some of the least unequal countries. The environment is one of the best kept in the globe, as seen from our beaches. And many, many more.

(Although the fucking gender gap doesn't exist for many, many practical reasons, but for the sake of the particular argument...)

We have the same self-hatred mentality as Spaniards unfortunately. "Best at being the worst". While it's anything but true.

I fully understand you.

And it's high time we dumped this retarded way of thinking immediately. It does no one good. Pinpointing the worst and complaining about everything, without providing a solution, isn't beneficial to anyone, especially society as a whole.

And after you told me this, I will definitely visit Spain first to discuss with the Spaniards about this!

The country where I have half direct ancestry from, since my mom is a full Spaniard from Spain, and the country where most of my ancestry comes from, if we add to it that I have more indirect Spanish ancestry coming from my Venezuelan dad. I could be about 80% Spanish, or some like that, if we exclude my Italian, Amerindian and SSA.

I'm very proud of it, since Spain is a great country, with great people, culture and history.
