Default What percent of Turkey is balkan? (genetically)

Of the Republic of Turkey, what percent of the total population has significant Balkan (25%+) ancestry?

Roughly 10 million is predominantly Balkan Turkish. Taking 1/4 as a threshold, it can go up to 12-13 million, I believe. Except for crowded cities such as Istanbul and Izmir, many individuals still marry only among their own community.

Non-Turk Balkan Muslim population varies around 6 million. Albanians, Torbesh, Gorani, and Bosniaks are highly mixed Anatolian and Balkan Turks. Pomaks, living together with them both in the Balkans and in Turkey, usually under the same umbrella as Balkan Turks.

Approximately 3 to 4 million people migrated back to Anatolia during and after the Balkan Wars from Bulgaria, Greece, Albania, Yugoslavia, Romania, Macedonia and such. The total population of the country was about 15 million at that time. Also; there was a significant increase of Balkan migrants in 1980s Bulgaria (around 300k) because of communist regime and the Bosnian War (currently there are about 2 million Bosnia migrants in Turkey)

It is estimated to be around %30 to %40.

Turkey does not conduct official ethnic and demographic statistics like in the US, so there is not a certain number.

Counting up unmixed Balkan Turks plus non-Turkic Balkan muslims, i guess 1/3 of population.

Now if counting people with 1/2 and 1/4 Balkan ancestry, i think the number is much bigger.

Numbers are exaggerated.I know, i am obsessed with people s ethnic background. When i was in my high school only 2 of 20 people have balkan ancestry.Even in Western Turkey, balkanite turks are very rare.So %20 is totally impossible to me

At least 20%, but i would say not more than 30% if we talk about Balkan Turks. The numbers of non-Turkish people with Balkan ancestry are extremely exaggerated(the numbers in Wikipeda are often nonsense). In bigger cities Turks are often already „mixed“, although mixed would be wrong i mean they are the same people, just another subgroups.

All throughout my school life I've encountered a lot of Balkan immigrants like me. Some were Bosnian, some Albanian, most from Bulgaria and Greece. In my company; there were 2 people who had Bulgarian citizenship. Also back in university there was a guy who had a Bulgarian citizenship. It's common to find people with ancestry from modern-day Balkan lands.

Turkey's third biggest IYI Party leader Meral Akşener is a Balkan immigrant from Thessaloniki.
