I don't see anything bad about it. Everything old is renovated and esepcially the bigger towns are getting modernised. I do remember very vague some things when I was a small kid 2004-2005. Old and ugly commie blocks, trash everywhere, no infrastructure. My parents told me that there was a big difference between Bulgaria and Western Europe back then, but now it doesn't exist.
While in Serbia they still smoke in their gas stations and you can hear their turbo-folk music at their malls. Like Bulgaria 10-15 years ago.
Despite being part of the SOviet sphere of influence, the people from the Soviet union always felt as they are in the West during their holiday in Bulgaria. The average Russians can only wish to have the Bulgarian living conditions.
I don't care about your language. But I do like that Albanian is your second official language.
